Are you agonizing over whether you should find a new job? Over the past two years, we’ve seen millions of workers change their employers. The Great Resignation was all about finding better pay, a better work environment, and a better life. But you may be one of those people who have been thinking about leaving but haven’t taken the plunge. How can you know it’s time to leave your current job? We have answers that will help you take stock of your situation and decide whether to stay or go in 2023.

5 Signs it’s Time to Leave Your Job

1. The job is shaky

Are there rumors of layoffs swirling around the office? We’ve seen layoffs hit the tech sector recently, but how is your company doing? There are also rumors of a recession in the future. Will your company and your job survive it? If these things worry you, maybe it’s time to look for something more secure.

2. You hate Sunday night

Do you know that sinking feeling you get every Sunday when you know you have to go to work the next day? What if you start to feel that feeling during the week, too? If the alarm clock on a workday makes you wake up with a knot in your stomach, it’s time to dump the anxiety and look for a job that makes you happy again.

3. The job is rigid with no flexibility

In case you hadn’t noticed, there are millions of people working from home at least a few days a week. Are you in a job where you could have that option—but you don’t? Do you have a long commute that you hate? Does your job require lots of overtime with little support for work/life balance? Consider looking around you at the opportunities just waiting out there. The new world of work is flexible. Why not take advantage?

4. You can’t motivate yourself to do the work

Burnout is a real occupational hazard. If you’ve noticed that your enthusiasm for doing the work has dropped considerably, maybe a new job would motivate you again. With more than 10 million open jobs right now, there is no way you have to go through the motions in your day job. Think about it.

5. You’re bored and not learning anything new

If you’re in a job with no room for growth and no opportunities to enhance your professional skills, wake up and look around you. Do you remember when the job was new, and you were excited about learning? The human brain wasn’t meant to do the same boring tasks repeatedly with no chance to learn new skills.
